Our Rugby Training

First we went outside and the men introduced themselves. Then we did a quick warm up and then we got into the game that was stuck in the mud but with rugby balls and when they shouted Sam Warburton we touched the floor with our hand, when they shouted Lee Halfpenny we had to jump as high as we could and George North we had to side step.
Then we went to play a game called rugby netball where there were two teams and the person with
the ball can't move but everyone else could. The meaning of the game was to get six passes and  other team had to intercept the passes so the other team couldn't get six passes and the team with six passes won and team 1 won the game.

Our trip to Cilfynydd water centre

On the 15th of January we went to Cilfynydd water centre. The first activity we done was learning about the water cycle, we learnt words like, evaporation, condensation, precipitation, run-off, infiltration and transpiration. We also built a puzzle which represented the water cycle.
We then did some experiments the first experiment we done was looking at water evaporating, to do this we had a little plastic container and we put 2ml of water in we done that by using a pipette. We put it on a stand and put a little candle underneath which was lit. We then watched it evaporate and turn back into water on the container. We also done another experiment which included us putting a pinch of salt in some water then we took a pipette and took 2ml of water again and put it in the container. We then waited and went onto the next activity.
The next activity we done was having a look at what would happen to houses if we chopped down trees on hills and built houses on the land. We got a small bucket of water and poured it over the houses on the hill and looked at what would happen to the houses at the bottom of the hill. What happened was that the houses at the bottom of the hill got flooded and then there wasn't as much infiltration as there was when there was trees. We then went back inside and looked at what happened to the salt water. We was all amazed at what had happened to the salt water it all changed back into salt.
We couldn't do all of the activities we were supposed to due to the weather that day. We did get a peace of blue plastic sheet and hovered it over a bucket and there was four teams the rules were there was a bucket in the middle which was full of water, one person from each team to have a sponge and get as much water as the could, and squeezed it over the plastic sheet. The team that one was team three which was our team.
Next we had some water which was full of mud and we had a choice of two filters out of three. Our team chose cotton wool and a jay cloth. It didn't go very well but one team out of the four teams done very well and won that team was team four. After that we had our lunch. We was lucky that day because it was raining we got to sit inside.
After that we were supposed to go on the rocks by the River Taff but we couldn't because the beach was flooded. We then tried to go on the bridge but it was to icy so we couldn't for health and safety reasons. We did manage to see the river from a distance but didn't manage to do the activity by the river. So instead we planned an experiment but we didn't get to do it.
We then took a walk to the pond and each group had two fishing nets each and went pond dipping. Our group done very well and had loads of creatures in our container. The point of this was to try and find one of the creatures that couldn't live in a polluted area. We did find one of them creatures it was called damsel fly nymph. So we found out that that pond wasn't polluted because if it was polluted we wouldn't have found it. We was very lucky and was the group which found that creature.
We walked back to the classroom with our creatures in our container and tipped them in a big white tray. We had a microscope between two and had a little container each we then put a little bit of water in it and took one creature each. We then put it under the microscope and looked at them at a closer view. The hardest part of that was getting the microscope to focus and to keep the creature still so we could see it.
That was the last activity that day because it was time to head back to school. As a gift we had a water bottle and activity book to take home from the water centre. We all had a lovely day.

Class 6 go to Llancaiach Fawr

On the 1st of December class 6 went to Llancaiach Fawr on a trip to learn about how Tudor and Stuarss lived. It took 40 minutes to get there by bus. The first room we visited was the servants eating room  where we learnt about the food they ate which was mostly pottage and cheese. We also made plague bags because people of the Stuart times thought the plague was a disease in the air so if you made a plague bag which contained sage, lavender and mint it would cleanse the air around you, and prevent you having the plague.
The next room we visited was the servant kitchen the lady there picked Gethin to turn a spit at the front of the kitchen. We learnt that the turning boy would turn the spit for 12 hours and would earn     half a penny a week but would have food also in the winter he would be able to sleep under the table by the fire. They called the spit the spit because the boy turning the spit would have oil spitting out at him and giving him burns all over his arms. He would be red hot all over one side of his face so he would get 8 pints of soft beer a day. The lady told us that men/boys earned more than women even though they done the same amount of work as the women. She said it was because men were higher up in the royal family tree.
Then we went upstairs into the more grand rooms. First we went to the court room/grand dining room the chairs were slanted on purpose so everyone could see the court case. He said they have food in the dining room and invite loads of people. He said once the king came for food but unfortunately there was thousand of the Kings guards to protect him so they to feed over 2,500 people and they only had 3 days.
The next room we went to was the the chamber room for the house owner and his wife the Colonel Pritchard had a servant bed underneath Kian went where Colonel Pritchard and his wife would sleep the Cole went on the servant bed Kian looked a lot more comfy than Cole. The man said that Colonel Pritchard would sleep sitting up so the angel of death wouldn't come and take his soul. The angel of death was thought of as a angel that would take people soul if the was laying down asleep and their mouth was frothing.
The next room we went to was Colonel Pritchards daughters chamber. The girls would sleep on a bed together. The mattress was made out of straw. They didn't have a servant bed underneath but they did have a place for a servant to sleep. The place was in a little room connected to the girls chamber room. So if one of the girls shouted out at night the servant would come instead of their mother. The man said that men were smarter than women so we took it to the test. We got a pot and ball. Kelly-Ann and Roman had 5 goes each and whoever gets the ball in first is smarter. It didn't work because both of them didn't get it in.
Next we went to the armoury room Ashley was picked to put on the armour. He put on a helmet a leather coat a chestplate and a wool hat under his helmet then he was given a gun. Mrs.Elphick and Mrs.Jones put on a helmet each and had a photo they looked really funny.
Next we had food the funniest part was when Kian had a packet of oreos and Mrs.Coates saw she went up to Kian and took the packet and ate one of the Oreos then gave the packet back to Kian.
Finally we wrote with quills the man showed told us how to make ink. Some people was really good at writing with the quill some was just making big blobs of ink on their sheet. Writing with a quill was really fun.
We did then go to the exhibition and the shop I bought a pot and ball Maddison bought a yellow quill with a golden tip.
Lastly we went on the bus and went back to the school.
That was year 6/5's class trip to Llanciach Fawr.

Off with her head!!

This term, class 6's topic is called Off with her Head! We had a court scene about whether or not Anne Boleyn was guilty. It turned out to be Anne was guilty. In the court scene we had Kelly-Ann as a judge and 9 other people as jury, Amelia was Anne Boleyn and Roman was Henry VIII. The rest of the children were giving their aguments for the side that they were on.
While researching we found out lots of facts Including that Anne had an extra finger and a mole on her neck, lots of people believed her as being a witch due to this reason. Although her bad side is very bad, Henry loved her to bits. We found this unfair because Henry blamed Anne for cheating on him but he however was cheating on Catherine of Aragon because he was sending love letters to Anne although he was still married to Catherine.
The order of Henry's wives and how he got rid of them is Catherine of Aragon first and she got divorced, then Anne Boleyn chose to be beheaded, after Anne was Jane Seymore and she sadly died, Henry loved Jane mainly because she gave him a son and called him Edward. After Jane was Anne of Cleeves, she was divorced just like Catherine, then Henry married Catherine Howard, Catherine just like Anne was beheaded. Then Henry married the Katherine Parr, Katherine outlived Henry and brought up the rest of Henry's children.
