Children in Need - Super Hero Fun

Abacus - M3 - Area of a Rectangle

To find the area of a rectangle you have to find out the length and the width of the rectangle then you have to times the length and the width together to get the answer. That is how you find the area of a rectangle.

For example the width could be 3 centimetres and the length could be 5 centimetres you have to times  3 centimetres and 5 centimetres together which would be 15 centimetres squared.

But there are different types of rectangles for example you could have L shapes and you would have to split the shape up to find out the area, for example you could have two widths and two lengths one of the widths could be 3 cm and the other width could be 7 cm, the length could be 5 cm and the other length could be 2 cm and if you times the 3cm and the 5 cm you would get 15 cm and if you times the 7 cm and the 2 cm you would get 14 cm and if you add 14 cm and 15 cm the answer would be 29 cm.
